I just watched a video of Bill Murray cracking gags at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Just like his film it is literally like Groundhog Day. The same random bunch of celebs get wheeled out and hack their way around one of the world's greatest courses.
But who wants to see this?
Do these events get more fans? More viewers on the TV? Bring it more revenue? I don't think they do really do they?
I get a regular Pro-Am. It's a way to please sponsors. But this is bollocks.
I'm sure we'll see Carlton from Fresh Prince do that fucking dance again, before at Wentworth every Premier League footballer from the 2000's will rock up.
And don't get me started on Anton Du Beke from Strictly or Jeremy Fucking Kyle.
Would it not make more sense to give regular punters the opportunity to play these top courses with their heroes?
You could run a competition and massively promote the event through the year and three people each golf club win a spot.
I wouldn't pay 10p to watch Jeremy Kyle hacking it about but get three of the lads from my golf club playing we'd have half of the members there on the beer and heckling them... would be class! And that would be every group!
Let's give golf back to the golf clubs and the people. It's about time!
I'm the Managing Editor at The Club. I like putting and Rioja. I dislike my low slice.
