4 Things We Learnt - Abu Dhabi Day 1

Rory is bang on it, an amateur leads and Jordan is being done for slow play

1 - Rory states the obvious

Rory means business for 2016 as he shot a 66 without really breaking sweat. He chucked in a couple of bogeys to prove he is human but the pairing with Jordan and Rickie got him going.

He also came up with some obvious quotes as you can see above. Scrap a 'good week' more like a 'good life' Master McIlroy!

Anyway I'm off to the toilet with the video of the pro tracer above...

2 - An amateur leads the way

This bloke, the US Amateur champion Brandan Dechambeau boshed out a 64 to lead the event by one from Henrik Stenson and Branden Grace.

The guy's whole set of irons are the length of a 7-iron and he compared himself to Einstein and Washington before saying he was like a scientist plotting his way around Abu Dhabi!

Might prove an interesting guy, might be a bellend. Time will tell!

3 - Jordan is done for slow play

The World Number one got done for slow play on his way to a hard-fought scrambling 68, where he wasn't quite on top of his game. (We all wish we could do that!)

Apparently he took a bit of time lining up a putt on one hole and the rules nerds jumped in to hit him where it will hurt... a token fine for the kid who has made $140 squillion in the last year!

Rory thought it was harsh and that is good enough for me.

4 - The English form horses gallop on

2015 breakthroughs Andy Sullivan and Matt Fitzpatrick showed no signs of letting up. Neither carded a bogey as Sullivan pipped his Eurasia Cup teammate by one with a 67.

If you're having a bet this year you might get good value on these two English form horses with the Irish names!

Same time, same place tomorrow. Will Spieth get a move on? Will I make it out of the toilet with Rory's pro tracer vid and will the English lads make a bogey?
