Golf Champions League

Ryan Curtis

So we are agreed golf is boring on TV. Football has the Champions League, cricket has T20... both of which are big moneyspinners. Golf just does the same thing over and over. ZZZZ.

So how about this?

Eight teams where players play for their sponsors.

But who would that be? (Don't worry we done that bit for you...)

Under Armour - Jordan Spieth (Cap) - Matt Fitzpatrick - Hunter Mahan - Bernd Weisberger

Nike - Rory McIlroy (Cap) - Tiger Woods - Brooks Koepka - Michelle Wie

Taylor Made/Adidas - Jason Day (Cap) - Sergio Garcia - Dustin Johnson - Martin Kaymer

Callaway - Lydia Ko (Cap) - Henrik Stenson - Phil Mickelson - Patrick Reed

Puma - Rickie Fowler (Cap) - Lexi Thompson - Jonas Blixt - Johan Edfors

Srixon - Hideki Matsuyama (Cap) - Shane Lowry - Graeme McDowell - Inbee Park

Ping - Louis Oosthuizen (Cap) - Miguel Angel Jimenez - Bubba Watson - Lee Westwood

Titleist - Ian Poulter (Cap) - Adam Scott  -  Thongchai Jaidee - Jimmy Walker

So there's the star names, but where will they play?

At floodlit night matches near cities of each captain. This will ensure nice, big and most importantly passionate and partisan crowds.

Jordan Spieth - TPC Las Colinas - Dallas, TX

Rory McIlory - Royal County Down, Belfast

Jason Day - Australian Golf Club, Sydney

Lydia Ko - Banyan Tree Club, Seoul

Rickie Fowler - Southern Hills, OK

Hideki Matsuyama - Tokyo Golf Club, Tokyo

Louis Oosthuizen - Sun City, Johannesburg

Ian Poulter - Wentworth, London

Finals Night - London, Paris, New York, Los Angeles etc.

OK, so you have saved golf. Anything else?

All matches played on Monday nights 7:30pm-9:30pm under floodlights. Music playing in the background, crowd can cheer/dance/fancy dress whole time. Kind of like a cross between the Rugby Sevens where people get hammered and the 16th at Phoenix!

All matches 9 hole foursome matchplay. Everyone always goes on about the 'Back nine on Sunday'... let's just skip straight to it!

Eight teams, Top four qualify for Semi-Finals at Finals night.

Players not in traditional golf clothes but whatever they want to wear. Obviously sponsors will still want branding.

Players have 2 caddies. One to carry clubs, one to be ahead working out what club to hit. They are in conversation over mic.

Players are mic’d up and commentators can talk to them. Should hopefully provide insight and a bit of banter like in the cricket.

Celebs/brand ambassadors from other sports inside ropes walkins with them. Also Mic’d up for our entertainment! (Eg. Steph Curry/Tom Brady walking with Spieth, Usain Bolt with Fowler)

Pro tracers on every hole. Because of this.

As soon as they get to the ball they are on a 20 second shot clock. Because, yeh, just get on with it!

Matches streamed on YouTube or similar to make it more accessible, as well as available on catch up. Money made through ads on there.
