Forget the European Tour finale in Dubai. Forget the Australian Open with Jordan Spieth. Even forget pretty much every golf tournament of the year.
Tomorrow, in the home of Lionel Messi in Catalunya, golfers will be aiming to score in a different way, by earning themselves a European Tour card.
After playing five rounds under the most intense pressure it is ramped up for one more day as they fight with the Top 25 and ties securing playing rights for next season.
The leaderboard has some familiar names. Edoardo Molinari leads the way at -14, with the likes of Matthew Nixon, Eddie Pepperell and Tom Lewis all looking good at -9 with 18 more holes to navigate.
Pepperell had chucked his tour card away on his final hole in Portugal spraying a drive into a bush and there won’t be many more relieved men than him if he performs tomorrow.
But for all the big names there are so many fighting for that shot at the bigtime, whether they are young up and comers or old hands who’ve been through all this before.
Currently there are nine players tied at -5 who would all get a card in T22 but it won’t take much in the morning in Spain to change all that.
72 players will go out tomorrow with the vast majority still believing they can do it. But someone will bogey the last to miss out and someone will come charging through the field.
There will be players who will give up the game dependent on tomorrow and there will be players who become household names.
So in the home of Barcelona expect no tiki-taka golf, or Messi, Suarez and Neymar style showboating, expect absolute grind for guys playing like their life depends on it.
