I am going to savour this moment...
I managed to pick the winner of a golf tournament and pretty much everything I wrote in the article Thursday seemed to work out.
Northern Trust Review
Cameron Smith @ 175/1 - 2.50 e/w
Made the cut but never really threatened. A promising youngster who I will continue to back this year mainly because it will only take one good tournament to make some money back.
Charl Schwartzel @ 33/1 - 10 e/w
Two 68’s put Charl in a decent position to attack the top of the leaderboard on Saturday. The attack didn’t materialise though with back to back 73’s resulting in a finish of tied 45th.
Winner Bubba Watson @ 25/1 - 10 e/w
Bubba set up perfectly for this course, he hits a 15 yard cut practically every tee shot and can rely on that shot shape under the most intense pressure.
I will be backing him for the Masters as again the golf course really does set up for him. I quoted him at 28’s but by the time I managed to get a bet on he was in to 25’s. At ten quid each way though this proved to be a very solid investment.
The total winnings were 332.50 and a profit of 312.50.
What of Mcilroy and Spieth?
Spieth missed the cut after a terrible 79 (8 over) in round one, he did manage to shoot –3 on Friday but there was far too much to do to make the cut.
Mcilroy tied the lead after an eagle on his first hole in round four. I was watching thinking wow he could run away with this.
Rory though managed to have a shocker after the first hole shooting +6 for the rest of the round mainly due to his travails with the putter. Unless something improves with the flat stick soon he looks a constant lay. If you can’t get the ball in the hole you can’t win.
Omega Desert Classic: £42.50 win
Pebble Beach Pro Am: £40 loss
Northern Trust: £287.50 win
Season total = +£290
Other Happy Punters...
Big dog Thomas went hard here with a 50p bet but a win is a win!
And this lad Rid picked up on Bubba too... happy days!
Stay tuned this for more tips this week where we will inevitably lose!
